Hardwood floors or parquet floors often get scratched very quickly after they have been installed. To remove superficial scratches, you will need a wood repair marker in the same color as your floor. You can buy these in most hardware stores. Once you have acquired one, follow these steps:

  1. Remove all dust and dirt by cleaning around the scratch with a soft cloth soaked in water.
  2. Test the cursor  in a hidden place where it will not be visible, to make sure it is the right color.
  3. Paint over the scratch with the marker until it has the same color as the rest of the floor.

2. Superficial scratches in laminate floors

Laminate flooring is a cheaper alternative to hardwood floors, and can be easily scratched. Because of this, it is important to have a strategy to remove these scratches. Here, our solution benefits:

  1. After a primer cleaning the area around the scratch, use a floor repair marker to hide the scratch. These markers are usually included in floor repair kits.
  2. Remove all excess wax and smooth the area with a damp cloth.
  3. Let it dry for 24 hours.
  4. Take a little putty (this also comes with the repair kit) and fill in the scratch until it is level with the floor.
  5. Remove all excess putty with a tea towel.

These cases are a little more serious. However, it is still possible to improve the situation. To do this, use putty in the same color as your floor. Next, follow these steps:

  1. Clean the damaged area with a damp cloth. Clean the tea towel and repeat this until the area is completely clean.
  2. If your floor has an extra coat of varnish, wipe the area with solvent to remove it. Then dry the area again with the damp tea towel and let it dry.
  3. Add a little putty with your index finger and spread it over the damaged area. You do not have to worry about whether you have spent too much; you can always remove the excess later.
  4. Let it dry for at least a day.

If you do not feel like using this method or if you are afraid of damaging the floor further, then you can always get a professional to do it for you. But there is no need to worry – it’s a simple process.

Granite floors are characteristic of older houses. These floors add extra beauty to any house once they have been installed and maintained properly.

However, although they are very durable and resistant to damage, they are not immune to scratches. They can also be damaged when moving furniture or if a heavy object falls on them. Unfortunately, you need professional help in these cases.

In contrast, superficial scratches and stains are very common, and easier to remove. If you have found such scratches in your granite floor, we recommend doing the following:

  1. As always, clean the damaged area with a wet tea towel to remove any dirt. Let it dry.
  2. Apply polishing paste to the scratch. Follow the instructions on the container.
  3. Polish the scratch with fine steel wool. Start very gently so you avoid damaging the area further, and stay on for a few minutes.
  4. Test the granite seal after polishing. If you put a few drops on the surface and see that it spreads out after a few minutes, then it’s time to apply the granite seal again.
